Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately, the weather pattern has not changed so athletics training has been cancelled for today.
Our next training session will be Tuesday 31st January at 4.30pm
Don't forget athletes can still doing stretching exercises every day to keep flexible. The ones we do for warm-ups at training and competition.

Today's Sunnybank LA competition, Round 3 Week 3, has been CANCELLED due to the weather!!!

Good Morning All,
I don't think it will come as a surprise to anyone that we have decided to cancel competition for today.
With continual showers and rain all week, and the lack of sunshine to dry the ground out, the oval is in no state to run athletic events on. This lost comp day will be rescheduled for one of our reserve days later in the season.
Ros and I will be down at the oval (where the canteen is usually set up) from 1:30-2:30 to ensure no-one misses out on getting their nomination forms in for the upcoming Regional Championships.
My apologies for anyone who has been trying to contact me on my home phone, Telstra is trying to correct a fault with it and is unsure how long it will take!

Reminder - Nominations for the SE Regional Championships close TOMORROW.

As for tomorrow......
The comfort of our families and the safety of our young athletes is always of utmost importance, a decision will be made by 12:00 pm as to whether competition will go ahead. I will send an email to everyone advising (if cancelled). A notice will also be placed on the SLAC Website.
If our centre comp is cancelled for tomorrow.........don't worry we still have 2 more reserve days at the end of the season, any lost days will be made up then!

We've have decided to make an early call with the cancellation of Training today. The weather forecast is for more showers over the coming days.
Our next training session will be Sunday 29th at 3.30pm.
Hopefully the weather pattern might change for the weekend!!!
See you all Saturday at 1.30pm for sign-ins and warm-ups.
If you can lend a hand to help set-up from 12.30pm onwards that would be greatly appreciated.

The South East Regional LA Championships are almost upon us. The following colourful email from our Centre Manager, Isabel Green, covers the details:-

South East Regional Championships
On the weekend of the 11th and 12th of February the
Algester Little Athletics Centre will host the
2011/2012 Regional Championships at the Beenleigh LAC grounds.
Competition is open to athletes U/7 - U/17
All U/7 & U/8's entered will receive participation medals
U/9 - U/17 athletes who place 1st, 2nd and 3rd
will be awarded medals and qualify for the
Queensland State Little Athletics Championships.
(Walks Participants are subject to time
qualifications for entry into State championships.)
The competition is a wonderful experience for young athletes, giving them an opportunity to meet other children who share a common interest in sport. It's also a great opportunity for kids to become familiar with larger competitions, which will help them when it comes to School District and Regional sports carnivals.
Once again we will come together under the Sunnybank tents for a great day of inter centre athletics and show the other clubs that we are proud to participate.
Bring your chairs and eskies and make a day of it or take advantage of the Beenleigh/Algester BBQ and canteen facilities.
Beenleigh Centre is located at Cec Clark Park, Oliver Sporting Complex, Logan St, Eagleby

Hi Everyone,
I'm making the call early to cancel Little A's Training for this afternoon..... for fairly obvious reasons! We were lucky last Saturday with the weather but only got 1/2 way through our training session on Sunday when the rain started closing in.
As expected our numbers were down a bit for our first comp day back from the Christmas break with many families still on holidays. Although several of our key officials were missing, thanks to our hands on parents, events ran smoothly and were completed well and truly on time.
A HUGE THANK YOU to our parents and helpers, it's only thanks to all of you that Little A's operates and all of our young athletes benefit.
Hopefully the rain will ease up towards the end of the week and provide us with fine weather for Saturday.

Due to the unstable weather forecast for tomorrow the organisers of the combined competition meet at SAF, Nathan have decided to postpone the event until later in the month (TBA)
The decision was made early to avoid chaos for all centres and their families at the last moment.
We will revert back to our normal centre program at Sunnybank,

2:00 - Start
I will keep an eye on the weather and a decision will be made by 12:30 (as per usual procedure detailed in our Yearbook) if we need to cancel our Sunnybank competition tomorrow

Warm-ups begin 3:45 and events start 4:00pm

*Tiny Tots and Trialists*
Our Tiny Tots program will still be operating
4:30-5:30 under the SUNNYBANK
tent located at the northern end of the field.
There will be a canteen operating
Make sure you bring something warm to put on as the weather
still gets a bit cool later in the day.
This will be a wonderful opportunity for our young athletes to
experience competition in a larger dedicated athletics venue with a larger
number of athletes from other centres.
It’s a great way to introduce them to outside centre
competition, they will be performing their events with others as opposed
to competing against them.

It's very nearly that time of year again, Sunnybank Little A's 2011/2012 Season Sign-On is just around the corner! Link to the info document, you need, for where and when plus a registration form.
You might like to print out the registration form and fill it in at home to save you time at the Sign-On. If not, no problem, we'll have plenty there for you to complete.
We're looking forward to seeing everyone again and planning for a great new season for our young athletes and families.

At the Sunnybank LA Management Committee meeting held on Tue 21st June 2011, the committtee resolved that the first competition date for the 2011-12 season will be Saturday 27th August 2011 and the SOLE Sign-On day will be on the 20th August 2011 and that the fees that applied to the 2010-11 season will also apply to the 2011-12 season. The remainder of the 2011-12 Competition Calendar was also decided. Full details can be found by linking to the Calendar webpage.
At the following Sunnybank LA Management Committee meeting held on Tue 12th July 2011, the meeting re-affirmed the earlier decisions on the 2011-12 Calendar.

Isabel Green was re-elected to the position of the Centre Manager for the 2011-2012 Season.
The remainder of Committee for 2011-2012 consists mostly of the 2010-2011 Committee with the exceptions of Wayne and Laurellen Currie who are bowing out to concentrate on their studies. Also joining the committee for the first time is Donna Nuttall. While Ros Werder also takes on the position of Secretary as well as her current role of Coaching Officer.
The overall result of which is a very stable hardworking committee.

- Isabel Green was the Sunnybank Centre Manager in 2010-11 and was Assistant Centre Manager in 2009-10. Isabel has also held the Committee postitions of
* Achievement Officer in 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-09
Isabel has a Level 2 Coaching Certificate in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays, Throws and Jumps.
- Roslyn Werder was Sunnybank Centre Manager in 2007-08 and has held these other Committee positions of
* Achievement Officer in 2005-06
* Coaching Officer in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09, 2010-11
Roslyn has a Level 2 Coaching Certificate in Sprints, Hurdles, Relays and Throws.
- Rachel Lobb, a Kindergarten Teacher, was Treasurer in 2010-11 and has a Level 1 Coaching Certificate
- John Mitchell was has been apart of the Sunnybank Centre since 1984 and awarded a Life Membership in 1994. He has held the Committee positions of

- Margaret Page has been Canteen Conveynor since 2005 and has a reputation for making some wonderful cakes.
